MacOS Notes Client: Java Update to version Java 8 Update 161 breaks Client UI

Hi there,

can someone confirm that the upgrade to Java 8 Update 161 breaks the most recent Notes MacOS client?

Before the upgrade of Java on MacOS High Sierra 10.13.2 (including the most recent updates) to this version Java 8 Update 161

the client had no problems. Now - after the update - the current client does not respond to any clicks in the UI.

No menus, no tabs - nothing. The client most recent client version 9.01 IF12 (=SHF861) is pretty useless.

We had several systems with this issue.

Thanks for any confirmation. Will open a PMR now.

Solved: You need to downgrade to Java 8 Update 144

Looks like you need to downgrade to Java 8 Update 144 to get the Notes client back.

Steps:

1. Remove the faulty Java version using these insttructions: https://www.java.com/en/download/help/mac_uninstall_java.xml

2. Download the old version from this site: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/java-archive-javase8-2177648.html

3. Install the old Java version.

4 Start Notes. UI is back, Notes is working again.

Java problem?

Hi there, I did uninstall the latest Java, and then reinstall the J8U144, but it still doesn't work. 

 

after: [ IBM Notes is starting, please wait ], program closes by itself. 

 

Im running 9.01 social 64B , with updates running till SHF886. 

 

A point to note: I did set Basic notes=1 in notes.ini and it run perfectly OK in basic notes. But doesn't on normal notes. What could be the reason?
